MICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in New Haven, CT

Join a high-acuity Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) as a travel Registered Nurse in New Haven, Connecticut. Bring your critical care expertise to a 56-bed MICU and stepdown environment, care for complex adult patients, and collaborate with an experienced interdisciplinary team in a Level I trauma setting. Travel Nurse Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel Registered Nurse contract
• Location: New Haven, Connecticut
• Start Date: October 30, 2026
• End Date: January 29, 2027
• Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 12-hour nights
• Shift Hours: 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Healthcare Setting: High-acuity 56-bed MICU and stepdown unit within a Level I trauma environment
• Typical Patient Ratios: 3:1 in stepdown; ICU assignments are generally 1:1 or 2:1, with occasional 3:1 assignments involving lower-acuity patients
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Call: Not required
• Floating: PCU, other ICUs, and an additional campus as needed
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic

MICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent experience in a medical intensive care unit or closely related critical care specialty
• Active Registered Nurse license in Connecticut, or eligibility to obtain one before the start date
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Experience caring for patients with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, liver or renal failure, post-cardiac arrest conditions, and gastrointestinal bleeding
• Proficiency with Epic or comparable electronic medical record systems preferred
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
• Willingness to float to designated units and provide every-other-weekend coverage
• One professional reference required
• Completion of required pre-start and annual learning modules
• Influenza vaccination is required for this assignment

MICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and stepdown patients during overnight shifts
• Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, continuous IV sedation, arterial lines, and central lines
• Interpret arterial blood gases and recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Monitor and manage dysrhythmias and patients experiencing multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
• Apply appropriate isolation precautions and personal protective equipment practices
• Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, PCAs, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Primarily accept stepdown assignments while providing occasional ICU coverage based on unit needs
• Float to PCU, other ICUs, and the designated additional campus when requested
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient outcomes in Epic
• Promote patient safety, continuity of care, and evidence-based critical care nursing practices
