Join a high-acuity MICU and Stepdown Unit as a Travel Registered Nurse in New Haven, CT. This 13-week travel nursing contract offers $1,980–$2,080 weekly pay and the opportunity to care for complex adult patients experiencing acute respiratory failure, sepsis, liver and renal failure, post-cardiac arrest conditions, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Travel RN Job Details

• Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and critical care
• Unit: High-acuity 56-bed MICU and Stepdown Unit
• Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
• Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM; 4x12-hour rotation
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:3 in the Stepdown Unit; ICU assignments are generally 1:1 or 1:2, with occasional 1:3 assignments for lower-acuity patients awaiting transfer
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Floating: PCU, other ICUs, and an affiliated campus as needed
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic
• Trauma Designation: Level I Trauma Center

Travel Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut, or eligibility to obtain one before the start date
• At least 2 years of recent MICU, ICU, or critical care nursing experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Experience caring for ventilated patients and managing arterial and central lines
• Proficiency with continuous IV sedation and complex infusion management
• Strong knowledge of dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and care for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
• Comfort working with isolation precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Willingness to provide every-other-weekend coverage and float as needed
• At least one professional reference
• Seasonal influenza vaccination required

MICU Travel RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult patients in the MICU and Stepdown Unit
• Monitor and manage patients experiencing acute respiratory failure, sepsis, liver or renal failure, post-cardiac arrest conditions, and gastrointestinal bleeding
• Provide care for ventilated patients and manage arterial lines, central lines, continuous sedation, and other critical care therapies
• Interpret arterial blood gases, recognize dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate interventions
• Assess for changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the interdisciplinary care team
• Maintain accurate documentation in Epic while supporting safe transitions and continuity of care
• Follow infection prevention, isolation, and patient safety standards
• Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, patient care assistants, and other members of the critical care team
• Float to PCU, other intensive care units, and the affiliated campus when operational needs require
