Travel Nursing Job Details

• Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
• Location: New Haven, Connecticut
• Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Start Date: October 30, 2026
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Healthcare Setting: On-site, 23-bed SICU within a short-term acute care hospital and Level I trauma center
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
• Typical Patient Ratio: 1:2

• Floating: ICU and step-down/PCU within scope of practice as needed

Travel SICU RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut, active before the start date
• At least 2 years of recent SICU or comparable critical-care nursing experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Recent experience with Epic or another electronic health record system; Epic experience preferred
• Demonstrated competency in airway management, ventilator care, chest tube management, IV drip titration, and care of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
• Experience managing arterial lines, central lines, vasoactive medications, continuous IV sedation, blood products, and dysrhythmias
• Ability to care for ventilated patients and manage BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, IV insulin protocols, and acute renal failure
• Level I trauma nursing experience preferred
• Ability to complete required orientation and pre-start learning modules
• Annual influenza vaccination is required

SICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit
• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition, including multisystem organ dysfunction and failure
• Manage ventilators, airway devices, suctioning, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy
• Titrate vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, insulin infusions, and other critical-care medications according to protocols
• Monitor arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, and other invasive devices
• Interpret arterial blood gases, cardiac rhythms, and 12-lead EKGs to support timely clinical interventions
• Administer blood products and maintain infection-prevention and isolation precautions
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, physical therapy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Float to the step-down/PCU area within scope of practice to support patient-care needs
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
