Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro ICU RN for a 14-week nights assignment requiring CA RN licensure and NIHSS certification.

Details

• 20-bed Neuro ICU (McAuley ICU) in an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
• Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2
• Common diagnoses include CVA, ICB, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, and ventriculostomies
• Frequent line insertions performed on the unit
• Charge nurse typically does not take patients but assists with break relief
• Nurse aides available as safety attendants/sitters
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support, with ICU pharmacy open during dayshift
• Hospitalist or intensivist in house at all times
• 12-hour night shifts starting at 6:45am with bedside report
• Every other weekend requirement
• Rotates holiday coverage in with core staff
• First to float to sister facilities, with occasional mid-shift float
• 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required, Neuro ICU experience preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips (telemetry)
• Experience with ventilators required
• Two supervisor references required, one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required, with name matching government-issued ID

• Strong stroke program and dedicated neuro center within a newer, state-of-the-art unit
• Navy scrub color required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional in navy
• Self-scheduling available with schedules released 4 weeks out, though not finalized until manager balances it
• Overtime and extra shifts available
• Will work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Must complete a Dysrhythmia exam through UNA prior to contract signing, with a pass/fail scoring requirement of 80% within 2 attempts
• Pass/fail sterile technique testing for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required on first day of orientation
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
