Travel Nursing Job Details

• Unit: Short Stay Unit; 13-bed Med/Surg department
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• End Date: January 11, 2027
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Weekend Requirement: Six weekend shifts within a six-week schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call Requirement: None
• Charting: EPIC
• Orientation: Approximately 1–2 shifts with a preceptor

Med/Surg Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• At least 1 year of recent adult Med/Surg or acute-care nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Strong general medical-surgical assessment and prioritization skills
• Ability to care for patients with varied diagnoses, including stroke, trauma, cardiac conditions, urinary tract infections, COPD, and cellulitis
• Flexibility to float to other departments when needed; nurses floating to a higher-acuity area may provide team-based support when appropriate

Short Stay Unit Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients in a high-turnover Short Stay Unit
• Complete comprehensive assessments, medication administration, care planning, documentation, and patient education
• Monitor patients with medical-surgical, cardiac, neurologic, respiratory, and trauma-related conditions
• Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate promptly with the care team
• Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, patient care technicians, respiratory therapy, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Support patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen according to orders and unit protocols
• Participate in telemetry monitoring; independent EKG strip interpretation is not required
• Assist with patient care, vital signs, blood glucose checks, hourly rounding, and other unit needs as appropriate
• Adapt to floating assignments while maintaining quality, safety, and patient-centered care
