Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Requirements

• Active Illinois Registered Nurse license or license application in progress
• At least 1 year of hospital-based nursing experience; medical-surgical experience preferred
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Ability to care for adult patients with a variety of general medical diagnoses
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring, oxygen therapy, and peripheral IV starts
• Willingness to float to other units as needed
• Ability to complete required onboarding, screening, and credentialing processes

Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients in a 31-bed acute-care unit
• Assess patients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
• Administer medications and safely manage titratable heparin infusions according to orders and policy
• Monitor patients requiring telemetry and recognize changes in clinical condition
• Care for patients receiving oxygen through nasal cannula, as well as stable CPAP or BiPAP support when indicated
• Perform or attempt peripheral IV starts and collaborate with appropriate support resources when needed
• Communicate effectively with providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, patient care technicians, and the interdisciplinary care team
• Support safe patient transitions, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient-centered care
• Participate in every-other-weekend and applicable holiday rotation requirements
