Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro Med/Surg RN for a night shift acute care position requiring NIHSS certification and recent Epic experience.

Details

• Acute care Neuro Med/Surg unit with 20 beds (14 floor beds)
• Patient population includes neurosciences, DBS, stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spine, and other neurological disorders
• Floor patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Nursing assistants available at a 1:7-10 ratio, 3 per shift
• Full-time night shift, 7p-730a
• Weekend and holiday rotation required
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7
• Telemetry monitoring in place with monitor techs reading strips; RNs verify strip review in Epic
• RT available 24/7 for floor vents; RNs not required to have vent experience
• Floating required, with priority to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E before other hospital units
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIHSS certification required in hand at time of consideration
• ACLS preferred
• 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong overall neuro nursing experience required
• Proficiency and frequency with G-tubes required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care for a variety of neurological and post-surgical spine patients
• Document verification of telemetry monitor tech strip readings in Epic
• Titration of drips is performed by physician order or per unit protocol
• One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
• Scrub colors limited to any combination of white and royal blue
• Holiday rotation coverage expected
• Weekend requirements vary by shift, generally every other weekend or three weekend shifts per schedule
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius (100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital) to qualify as travelers
• Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have a 2-year break before reapplying, and cannot work more than one cumulative year within the system without a 2-year break
• Former permanent staff at Princeton Community, Potomac Valley, and Garrett Regional are not eligible to return as travelers
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
