Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring prior travel experience and dedicated neuro unit background.

Details

  • Work on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in a hospital acute care setting
  • Care for patients with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, with some medical overflow
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR
  • Night shift schedule with 4 x 12-hour shifts per week
  • Titration of drips required, including heparin gtt based on PTT
  • House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors, no need to read own strips
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor present 24/7
  • Nurse aide/PCT support with ratios of 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
  • Float rotation required within general unit; may float to other units only for skills-competent tasks under supervision
  • Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) requirement
  • Every other holiday requirement
  • No call or standby requirements

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers considered
  • Previous experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
  • Heparin drip titration experience required
  • BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care within a Level 1 trauma neuro med-surg environment
  • Titrate medication drips, including heparin based on PTT levels
  • Troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment such as high flow oxygen for stable COVID patients, though uncommon on this unit
  • 2-day unit-specific orientation includes computer training with an educator, followed by 1 day of patient care with a preceptor
  • No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction, though local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles
  • COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
