Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit, requiring an active IL RN license, prior dedicated neuro unit experience, and previous travel nursing experience.
Details
- Work in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit of an acute care hospital
- 54-bed unit with 2 semi-private rooms
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, other neuroscience cases, and some medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on day shift and 1:5-6 on night shift
- Night shift schedule with 4 x 12-hour shifts per week
- Required to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Required to work every other holiday
- No call or standby requirements
- Floats within the general unit rotation as part of a full team; floats outside the unit only occur for urgent needs and only for skills the traveler is competent in
- RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin titration based on PTT
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to read their own strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available 24/7
- Nurse aides/patient care techs present on all shifts
- Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Previous experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- BSN not required for this position
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for a variety of neuroscience diagnoses, including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, and head injury cases
- Titrate medication drips, including heparin based on PTT
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow as needed; high flow used rarely for stable COVID patients
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator covering computer systems and unit specifics, followed by 1 day with a preceptor
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local rate
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
