Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg position requiring strong neuro experience, Epic proficiency, and NIHSS certification for a 13-week night shift contract.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg Neuro unit (6 West) in a hospital setting with 20 beds (14 floor beds)
- Patient population includes neurosciences, deep brain stimulation (DBS), stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spines, and neurological disorders
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for floor patients; nurse aide support available with a ratio of 1:7-10
- Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs are not required to read strips but must document verification of monitor tech readings in Epic
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 and manages floor vents; RNs are not required to have vent experience
- Charge nurse support available 24/7
- Common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin; titration is physician-order driven
- Schedule is 4x12-hour night shifts per week, including weekends and holidays as scheduled
- Weekend night requirement: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday OR Saturday, Sunday, and Monday; on weekday-focused schedules, every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
- Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E as first priority, then elsewhere in the hospital as needed
- EMR: Epic (recent experience required)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; NIHSS must be in hand at time of consideration
- ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong, recent neuro nursing experience required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency and frequent hands-on experience with G-tubes required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (if permanent employment within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility)
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Any background hits must be disclosed at time of consideration
Additional Information
- Care for a diverse neuro patient population including stroke, seizure, post-op spine, and neurological disorder patients
- G-tube management is a frequent responsibility on this unit
- Unit orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit
- Travelers are expected to participate in the holiday rotation
- Scrub color requirement: any combination of white and royal blue
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position (100-mile radius rule applies to certain other WVU facilities)
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to reapply
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
- Scheduling allows up to 3 consecutive shifts but this is not guaranteed; flexibility is required
