Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stroke/Neuro PCU position at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA, with Epic experience and NIHSS certification required.

Details

  • 13-week contract working night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
  • Schedule is 3x12-hour shifts per week, with 4x12 available by request
  • Unit 12 West is a telemetry PCU specializing in stroke and neurology patients within a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center
  • Large acute care hospital with over 700 licensed beds, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, and affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
  • Typical patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • Floating required within skillset
  • One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
  • Epic charting experience required

Requirements

  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Neuro PCU experience required
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Ability to administer cardiac drips (no titration required); drips include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
  • Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Familiarity with isolation precautions and telemetry in PCU, IMC, and stepdown settings
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
