Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU position requiring NIHSS certification and strong stroke care experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
• 31 total beds: 25 Stepdown and 6 EMU
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 on Stepdown and 1:5-6 on the EMU floor
• Cares for higher acuity neuroscience patients including strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EMU cases
• Telemetry is used on the unit but RNs are not required to read strips
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Nurse aides available at a 4 per shift ratio with 1:8-9 ratios
• Charge nurse on duty 24/7 and RT available 24/7 for floor vents
• 3x12hr night shifts from 7p-7:30a, with possible 3 shifts in a row (not guaranteed)
• Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule required
• Holiday rotation coverage expected
• Possible floating to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W
• Royal blue scrub color dress code
• 2-shift unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required, willing to wait for license if needed
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required in hand at time of submission, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong overall neuroscience nursing experience required
• History of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH stroke scale required
• BSN not required for this position
• Driver's license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• Provide direct care to higher acuity neuroscience patients including stepdown and EMU cases
• Titration of drips is only performed per physician order in this stepdown setting
• Common titratable or set-rate drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin
• EVD and post-TPA patient care is typically managed by permanent staff
• Floor vents are managed by respiratory therapy and physicians; vent experience not required for RNs
• COVID vaccination required, with medical or religious exemption forms available if applicable
• Previous WVU Medicine system employees or travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year before taking a required 2-year break
