Job Summary: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) registered nurse position in a hospital setting. This role involves providing specialized care to critically ill preterm and term infants, including procedures such as intubation, umbilical line placement, and surfactant administration. The position offers an opportunity to work with advanced neonatal equipment in a newly established NICU, fostering collaboration with neonatologists.
Job Details:
Location: Salem, Virginia
Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, a minimum of 36 hours per week
Start Date: 09/21/2026
End Date: 12/21/2026
Required Qualifications: RN licensure, BLS certification, NRP certification, 0 years minimum experience; experience with IV insertion in preterm or term infants, ability to work independently with strong assessment skills, and knowledge of symptoms of declining health in infants.
Preferred Qualifications: Breastfeeding support skills and strong communication abilities.
Responsibilities: Stabilizing and caring for critically ill neonates, performing advanced procedures such as vent support management, CPAP, UVC placement, needle decompression, TPN, lipids administration, and responding to emergencies with interventions like newborn resuscitation and intubation.
Schedule: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts, minimum 36 hours per week
Additional Information: The unit has a new NICU established in November 2023 featuring state-of-the-art equipment. Staff members are experienced and collaborative, with opportunities for schedule blocking and participating in unit-specific policies and guidelines.
