Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU position requiring 2 years of specialty experience, NRP certification, and travel experience.

Details

  • NICU setting with 18 rooms and 20 beds, average daily census of 6.9
  • Level III NICU caring for neonates ranging from under 24 weeks to over 34 weeks gestation
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
  • Weekend requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday and/or Saturday night) plus 2 Sunday nights per 6-week schedule
  • On-call requirement of two 12-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required within scope to well baby nursery and to attend deliveries on L&D, with potential floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • 13-week assignment length

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Missouri or Compact) required, with Kansas licensure or compact also required due to floating needs
  • Minimum 2 years of recent NICU specialty experience required, including a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); STABLE certification preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Patient ratio experience of 1:1 to 1:3
  • Required skills include high-risk delivery attendance, ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP), arterial line management, UAC/UVC care, central line care, neonatal dosage calculations, and blood gas collection
  • Additional skills include dysrhythmia interpretation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, phototherapy, therapeutic hypothermia, and management of neonatal sepsis
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor-level or above and one charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include high-risk delivery attendance, developmental care, patient/family teaching, and management of complex neonatal conditions such as respiratory distress syndrome and neonatal abstinence syndrome
  • Navy blue scrubs are provided for charge nurses and transition/baby catcher nurses only
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, all time-off requests must be finalized at time of submission with no additional requests after offer or onsite
  • Previous BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler; returning travelers require 18 months tenure with a 3-month break in service
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • No travel partners accepted for this assignment
