Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care for neonates of all gestational ages in a Level 3 NICU setting.

Facilities Information

• Average Census: 13-16

Patient Population

The Neonatal ICU will care for patients with various diagnoses, including but not limited to:

• Low Birth Weight
• High-Frequency Ventilation
• Nitric Oxide Therapy
• Total Body Cooling
• Feeders/Growers

Please note that our facility does not currently support ECMO or cardiac surgery procedures.

Patient Ratios

Registered Nurses will maintain patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:4.

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• STABLE certification is preferred

Required Education and Experience

The candidate must have completed an accredited nursing education program and hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing. A minimum of 1.5 years of nursing experience is required, and first-time travelers are accepted with at least 2 years of experience.

Skills and Responsibilities

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit RN will be responsible for:

• Ventilator management
• IV starts and medications titration
• Chest tube management
• Participation in neonatal resuscitation efforts
• Attending deliveries

Support on the Unit

• CNA support with a ratio of 1:10
• Charge Nurse availability at a ratio of 1:25
• Access to on-staff specialists, including Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, providing 24/7 coverage
• Transportation team available around the clock for patient transfers
• Lactation Consultants on site

Charting System and Equipment

• EPIC for electronic health records
• Alaris for IV administration
• Omnicell for medication dispensing

Additional Information

• Orientation includes general training and 1 day/1 night on the unit
• Scheduling may include primarily weekend shifts
• Holiday work is expected for 2 out of 4 major holidays
• Scrub Color: Navy
