Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II NICU position requiring NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. certifications, with prior travel experience and strong neonatal respiratory support skills.

Details

  • Level II Special Care Nursery (NICU II) in a hospital setting
  • Neonatal patient population including premature infants as early as 24 weeks and full-term newborns
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Floating to Postpartum and Labor & Delivery for neonatal care required
  • Charting via Cerner (experience required)
  • Equipment used includes ventilation systems for High-Flow O2, CPAP, and Mechanical Ventilation; BD Alaris Smart Pumps; and Point-of-Care Blood Glucose monitoring
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active MD or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, NRP, and S.T.A.B.L.E. certifications required
  • Minimum of 2 years of NICU experience required
  • NICU II experience required
  • CPAP experience required
  • At least one completed travel assignment required
  • Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and 100% on lethal rhythms
  • Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the past 3 years
  • Proficiency required in: respiratory support (High-Flow O2, CPAP, Bubble CPAP, Mechanical Ventilation), central line management, peripheral IV insertion, lab draws, IV antibiotic administration, neonatal resuscitation, thermoregulation, and stabilization of newborns under 32 weeks for transport to a Level III facility
  • Skills required include UAC management, dysrhythmia interpretation, neonatal dosage calculations, blood glucose monitoring, ETT/NT suctioning, ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP), and isolation precautions
  • Driver's license required for eligibility determination

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal stability of neonates; assisting with specialized procedures such as lumbar punctures and endotracheal resuscitation for infants 32 weeks gestation or greater; and initiating, modifying, or stopping treatment per established protocols
  • Candidates who previously worked for MedStar must have been separated for a minimum of one year before being eligible to return as a traveler
  • Candidates may only be submitted to one MedStar location at a time
  • No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; no more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration and cannot be changed once the profile is under review
  • Local candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are accepted; candidate address must match their driver's license for local status determination
  • Interviews with the hiring manager are not guaranteed
  • Previous charge experience is preferred
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
