Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU position requiring 18 months of experience and Cerner charting proficiency.

Details

• Work in the Neonatal ICU (NICU III/IV) of a community hospital
• Care for neonates ranging from under 24-28 weeks to over 34 weeks gestation
• Patient ratio of 1:3
• Day shift schedule of 3x12 or 4x12 hours (6:00-18:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within scope of practice, within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Attend high risk deliveries and provide Mother/Baby and Pediatric care as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license (IN or Compact) required in hand prior to start
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP or NRP Advanced
• Preferred certification: STABLE
• 1.5 years of NICU experience required
• Community hospital experience required; teaching hospital experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, and neonatal dosage calculations
• Experience with ventilator management, high frequency ventilation, oscillators, and other respiratory support modalities preferred
• Experience with therapeutic hypothermia, VP shunts, and neurological monitoring preferred
• 2 supervisor references required
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and infectious disease management
• Support high-risk deliveries and neonatal emergency care
• Administer emergency medications, vasopressors, antibiotics, and anti-seizure medications as needed
• Provide developmental care, patient/family teaching, and support for breastfeeding and NAS management
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• Local candidates from Indiana are not accepted for this position
• Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a consecutive break to reset eligibility (3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents)
