Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Level III NICU position requiring 2 years of NICU experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • Level III NICU unit within a Level IV Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • 42-bed unit caring for high-risk, critically ill preterm and term newborns
  • Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3, following AWHONN staffing standards
  • Provides respiratory support including nasal cannula, CPAP, NAVA, conventional and oscillator ventilation, and nitric oxide
  • Manages central lines including PICC, UAC, UVC, arterial lines, Broviac, and chest tubes
  • Provides NG/PO feedings, IV therapy, vasopressor support, sedation/paralytics, video EEG, and cooling therapy
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing
  • Unit equipment includes Angel Eye milk tracker, GE B450 cardiac monitoring, Medela feeding pumps, and Artic Sun cooling system
  • 12-hour night shift schedule with options for 3x12 (36 hrs/week) or 4x12 (48 hrs/week)
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • Rotating holiday coverage based on start date
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to Women's Care Center (postpartum/L&D) for newborn care only, with travelers floated first

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Level III NICU experience required, no exceptions
  • Experience with high-risk newborn assessment/reassessment, IV therapy, medication administration, and NG/PO feedings
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to high-risk, critically ill preterm and term newborns requiring multi-system support
  • Collaborate with ancillary departments and parents to deliver exceptional infant care
  • 24/7 support on the unit from Charge Nurses, Respiratory Therapy, and Neonatologists
  • Additional support available from House Supervisor, Women's Health Director, NICU Nurse Manager, NICU Nurse Educator, Lactation Consultants, OT, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Case Management, Pharmacy, Dietician, and Chaplain services
  • First day orientation includes meeting with Nurse Manager and Nurse Educator followed by unit training
  • Second day includes training with a preceptor
  • Third day includes an assigned work buddy and own patient assignment
  • Time off requests subject to Nurse Manager approval
  • Scrubs of any color accepted, excluding denim or camo, professional appearance required
  • Free parking provided in designated areas
  • First-time travelers may be considered pending manager approval
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius rules
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
