Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Peds Float Pool NICU/PICU position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Peds Float Pool position floating to PICU, NICU, Peds Med-Surg, Peds PACU, Peds ED boarders, and Postpartum/Mother Baby units in a teaching hospital setting
  • Cares for pediatric and neonatal patients including Level III NICU population
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Day shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week; block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • 13-week contract length
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Floating required within scope of practice per facility float policy
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS
  • Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
  • Must be comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and the pediatric ED
  • Prior float pool experience in NICU/PICU strongly preferred for those without direct travel experience
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Peds PACU experience highly preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple pediatric and neonatal specialty units as part of a float pool team
  • Complete specialty-specific orientation modules (up to 16 non-billable hours) recorded in Workday
  • Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance and none approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
  • Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
  • Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
  • Skilled experience in respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, oncology, neurologic, and GI care is valued given the diverse patient population
