Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 3b NICU position requiring at least 2 years of NICU experience and NRP certification, working nights on a 13-week travel contract in California.

Details

  • Level 3b NICU in an acute care hospital setting
  • 16-bed unit (expanding to 20 beds)
  • Patient population includes all gestational ages with a high volume of premature infants, as well as sepsis, therapeutic cooling, and substance abuse/withdrawal cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or up to 1:3 for feeder/grower patients
  • Ventilators used include Aveya, bubble CPAP, Vapotherm, and oscillator; Phillips monitoring equipment in use
  • No monitor tech or IV team on unit; RT and pharmacy available 24/7
  • Neonatologist available on call with 2 full-time and 1 part-time neonatologist
  • EMR: Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Every other weekend required
  • Travelers are first to float; float assignments may include L&D or postpartum to care for newborns
  • Holidays worked in coordination with permanent staff

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact/NLC) required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • COVID vaccination required
  • Minimum 2–3 years of NICU experience required; Level 3 NICU experience specifically required
  • Travel nursing experience preferred
  • Experience with therapeutic cooling preferred
  • Ability to attend deliveries preferred
  • Spanish-speaking skills preferred
  • Active driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Cares for premature infants and complex neonatal patients across all gestational ages; surgical cases are transferred out
  • Floor-specific orientation is 2–3 shifts
  • Navy scrubs required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
