Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift NICU RN requiring 2 years of Level 4 (or strong Level 3 surgical) NICU experience and an active CA RN license.

Details

• Level IV NICU setting within a Level 1 trauma, Magnet-recognized children's teaching hospital
• 60 staffed beds facility-wide
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:00), variable D/N or straight nights available
• Weekend availability required with full scheduling flexibility, no set weekend pattern
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within scope to PICU, CTICU, and Med Surg
• Floating to satellite NICU campuses (Rancho Springs, Palomar, Scripps Encinitas, Scripps La Jolla, and Scripps Mercy) may be required
• Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required in hand, or a confirmed ETA for licensure posting
• BLS certification required; Advanced NRP required; PALS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent Level 4 NICU experience required
• Will consider RNs with strong Level 3 surgical NICU experience from a facility performing surgeries on newborns
• Cardiac NICU experience preferred
• Experience required with oscillator, conventional ventilator, CPAP, nasal cannula specialty gases, PICC lines, Broviacs, UAC/UVC/PAL lines, trachs, ostomies, and G-tubes
• Comfortable managing line changes with multiple drips and providing pre- and post-operative care
• Must have own transportation for floating to satellite campuses
• Accurate SSN and DOB required for onboarding systems

• Provide high-acuity NICU nursing care including attendance at high-risk deliveries and post-abdominal surgery care
• Facility recognized as a Top 10 Children's Hospital, Magnet, Beacon Award Excellence, and Great Place to Work Certified
• Scrub color is unrestricted
• Free traveler parking is provided
• Mileage reimbursed at the IRS standard rate when floating to locations other than the home base facility
• Required to work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's), including holiday eves
• Maximum RTO of 6 days must be confirmed upfront
• First-time travelers accepted if they have strong Level 4 NICU experience
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Former permanent staff must be separated for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Clinicians who are DNR at Children's Hospital of Orange County will not be considered due to the merger with Rady Children's Health
• Travelers who complete a full year at Rady or CHOC must wait 90 days before returning as a traveler
