Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a NICU position requiring at least 2 years of Level 3 NICU experience and BLS/NRP certification.

Details

  • Work in the NICU of a 388-bed, Level 3 Trauma Center with a Level 3 NICU (47 beds)
  • Care for neonates 22 weeks gestation and greater with conditions such as fetal anomalies, ABO incompatibility, anemia, respiratory distress, asphyxia, meconium aspiration, hyperglycemia, non-surgical heart defects, jaundice, and NAS
  • Includes feeders/growers and ventilator-dependent patients using Draeger volume ventilation, NIPPV, bubble CPAP, and HFOV (no jet ventilation on this unit)
  • Patient ratios of 1:2-3 based on acuity, with 1:1 for highly acute patients
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
  • EPIC charting preferred; unit uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing
  • Floating required 2-3 shifts per week to L&D (newborn stabilization) and Postpartum/Newborn Nursery (1:5 ratios), with 1 guaranteed NICU shift per week for travelers
  • Occasional house-sitting float assignments possible
  • Every other weekend required, with possible additional weekends based on unit need
  • Overtime and on-call are optional

Requirements

  • Active RN license (WA or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience in a Level 3 facility required
  • Experience with nitric oxide, central lines (UAC, PICC, UVC), total body cooling, and ventilator management required
  • NAS care experience required, including eat/sleep/console treatment and morphine weaning protocols
  • Familiarity with Draeger volume ventilation, NIPPV, bubble CPAP, and HFOV required
  • RNs perform their own blood draws (no phlebotomy support)
  • Traveler telemetry competency exam required to be completed and passed prior to start

Additional Information

  • Charge nurse carries a patient assignment while providing unit support
  • 24/7 support available from neonatologist, advanced skills RN, neonatal NP, and designated RT
  • Unit features a volunteer cuddler program
  • Orientation includes general hospital orientation plus 2-2.5 shifts on the unit
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 4 designated holidays
  • Time off requests of up to 7 days can be approved
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free and paid parking available in designated areas, with shuttle service
