Travel NICU Nursing Job Details

- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,360–$2,480
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Population: Neonates, including infants approximately 29 weeks gestation and older
- Typical Ratios: Approximately 1:2 in the NICU and 1:3–4 in the Special Care Nursery
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including Saturday and Sunday coverage
- Holiday Requirement: Work or provide on-call coverage for applicable winter holidays as scheduled
- Floating: Appropriate assignments may include Newborn, Pediatrics, and PICU units
- Electronic Medical Record: Recent EPIC charting experience required
NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active New Jersey or Compact Registered Nurse license required at the time of submission
- At least 2 years of current Level III NICU nursing experience; Level IV NICU experience is a plus
- Current BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required
- PALS certification preferred
- Recent EPIC documentation and charting experience
- Demonstrated ability to care for neonates requiring complex medical and respiratory support
- At least one supervisory reference required during the submission process
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to float within the clinician’s established skill set
NICU Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to premature and critically ill neonates in a Level III/IV NICU environment
- Deliver developmental care, thermoregulation, blood glucose monitoring, phototherapy, isolation precautions, and sepsis workups
- Manage arterial lines, UACs, UVCs, central and implanted lines, IV starts, and maintenance therapies
- Administer blood and blood products, antibiotics, antivirals, anti-seizure medications, steroids, surfactants, insulin, and IV vasopressors according to neonatal protocols
- Support breastfeeding, breast milk handling, bottle feeding, and gavage feeding; perform oral, NG, and NJ tube placement as indicated
- Provide respiratory care involving bubble CPAP, HFNC, Vapotherm, oxygen delivery systems, chest tubes, suctioning, and ventilator management
- Care for neonates with respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration, necrotizing enterocolitis, and other complex conditions
- Educate and support patients’ families while collaborating with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in EPIC
- Preferred additional experience includes jet ventilation, oscillators, ECMO, therapeutic hypothermia, neonatal transport admissions, and advanced umbilical line management
