Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care to neonates in a Level III-B NICU.
• Care for patients in a 16-bed NICU, expanding to 20 beds.
• Maintain a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 for high-acuity infants and 1:3 for feeder/grower patients.
• Care for premature infants and neonates of all gestational ages.
• Manage patients with sepsis, respiratory distress, substance abuse/withdrawal, and other complex neonatal conditions.
• Provide care for infants receiving cooling therapy when indicated.
• Manage and monitor neonatal respiratory support, including:
  • Avea ventilators
  • Bubble CPAP
  • Vapotherm
  • Oscillator
• Administer and monitor neonatal medications and IV drips.
• Perform ongoing assessments of respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and overall neonatal status.
• Assist with and attend deliveries when needed.
• Collaborate with neonatologists, physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Coordinate care for infants who require transfer to another facility for surgery.
• Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in Cerner.
• Provide family-centered care and education to parents/guardians.
• Float to L&D or Postpartum to provide newborn care as assigned.
• Follow neonatal safety, infection-control, medication-administration, and patient-care protocols.
• Participate in every-other-weekend and holiday coverage as required.

Requirements Active RN license required at submission. BLS certification required. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required. Minimum 2–3 years of NICU nursing experience required. Must have Level III NICU experience. Travel nursing experience preferred. Experience caring for neonates of all gestational ages, including premature infants. Experience with ventilators, bubble CPAP, Vapotherm, and oscillators preferred/required for the role. Experience managing neonatal drips. Experience with cooling therapy preferred. Experience attending neonatal deliveries preferred. Must be comfortable caring for infants with prematurity, sepsis, respiratory conditions, and substance withdrawal. ECMO experience is not required; the unit does not manage ECMO patients. Cerner EMR experience preferred. Must be willing to float to L&D or Postpartum to care for newborns. Must work every other weekend. Must participate in holiday coverage according to the permanent staff rotation. Must be willing to work 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM. Must be willing to work first to float. Navy scrubs required. Must complete 2–3 shifts of floor-specific orientation. Spanish-speaking ability is preferred. BSN is not required. Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
