Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a NICU position requiring NICU II/III experience and EPIC proficiency.

Details

• NICU unit caring for neonates 22 weeks gestation and older
• Patient diagnoses include abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS/RFS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, duodenal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, urethral stenosis, myelomeningocele, and ROP
• Performs special procedures including full body cooling, chest tube management, surgical repair of non-cardiac anomalies, tracheostomy management, and Avastin administration with laser eye surgery
• Utilizes specialized equipment including Artic Sun, Blanketroll, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Alaris, Philips central monitors, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, dual incubators, radiant warmers, external shunts, and ostomy supplies
• Documentation system is EPIC, requiring at least 1 year of experience
• Uses Pyxis/Omnicell for medication management
• Night shift schedule of 4x12 hours from 1900-0730 with no call, or 3x12 hours with at least one 12-hour call shift bi-weekly
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend unless needs change
• Floating to other NICU units or facilities required as needed
• 1:2 patient ratio

Requirements

• Active RN license (SC or Compact) required
• Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the field required, with at least 1 year of recent NICU II/III experience
• Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy, administration of blood and blood products, arterial line management, central line care and blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with UAC and UVC required
• Proficient in administering medications including anti-seizure drugs, antibiotics/antivirals, IV vasopressors, steroids, and surfactants with accurate neonatal dosage calculations
• Skilled in APGAR scoring, developmental care, patient/family teaching, phlebotomy, and thermoregulation
• Experience with neurologic care including lumbar puncture assistance, neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, therapeutic hypothermia, and VP shunts
• Experience managing endocrine/metabolic conditions including blood glucose monitoring, hyperbilirubinemia, insulin administration, and phototherapy
• Skilled in gastrointestinal care including breastfeeding support, ostomy management, tube feedings, gastroschisis/omphalocele care, NEC management, and post-abdominal surgery care
• Respiratory skills required including Bubble CPAP, HFNC, high frequency ventilation, chest tube management, meconium aspiration care, nitric oxide therapy, oscillators, oxygen delivery systems, RDS care, suctioning, tracheostomy care, Vapotherm, and ventilator management
• Experience with invasive hemodynamic monitoring and unit telemetry
• Knowledgeable in isolation precautions/PPE, neonatal sepsis, and sepsis workups
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience required

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive neonatal intensive care to a diverse patient population ranging from extremely premature infants to term neonates
• Orientation held every Monday with annual compliance training required
• Pre-assignment testing and modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials, with reimbursement available for up to 16 hours
• Floating to other units or campuses may be required based on census needs, limited to units where competency has been demonstrated
• Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from any Prisma Health facility to be eligible, with reduced rates for those 90-99.9 miles away
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
