Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU night shift position requiring at least 2 years of recent NICU experience and 1 year of EPIC EMR experience.

Details

  • Work in the Neonatal ICU (NICU) of a hospital setting
  • Care for neonates 22 weeks gestation and greater with diagnoses including abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, duodenal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, urethral stenosis, myelomeningocele, and ROP
  • Perform or assist with special procedures including full body cooling, chest tubes, surgical repair of non-cardiac anomalies, tracheostomy management, and Avastin administration/laser eye surgery
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as Artic Sun, Blanketroll, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Alaris, Philips central monitors, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, Atom Dual and GE Dual Incubators, Draeger Caleos, radiant warmers, external shunts, and ostomy care
  • Uses Pyxis/Omnicell for medication and supply management
  • Documents in EPIC EMR, with at least 1 year of EPIC experience required
  • Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 1900-0730) with no on-call requirement, or an alternative 3x12 schedule with a bi-weekly 12-hour call shift
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend, subject to change based on need
  • Floating to other NICU units or facilities required as needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license (South Carolina or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and STABLE
  • Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
  • 1:2 patient ratio experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, blood/blood product administration, arterial line management, central line care, and UAC/UVC management
  • Experience with neonatal dosage calculations, surfactants, steroids, and emergency/anti-seizure medications
  • Skilled in ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP), high frequency ventilation, and nitric oxide therapy
  • Experience with therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and VP shunt care
  • Experience managing gastrointestinal conditions such as NEC and gastroschisis/omphalocele
  • Experience with phototherapy, blood glucose monitoring, and insulin administration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to a range of neonatal patients from extremely premature infants to those over 34 weeks gestation
  • Support developmental care practices and provide patient/family education
  • Perform phlebotomy, thermoregulation management, and assist with lumbar punctures as needed
  • Manage patients with neonatal abstinence syndrome and seizure disorders
  • Provide respiratory support including suctioning, oxygen delivery systems, and management of respiratory distress syndrome
  • Support breastfeeding and proper handling of breast milk
  • Adhere to isolation precautions and PPE protocols for infectious disease management
  • Floating to other Prisma Health units or campuses required per facility need, limited to units where competencies have been demonstrated
  • Complete pre-assignment testing and required training modules within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
  • Orientation occurs every Monday
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
  • Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from any Prisma Health facility to be eligible for full travel pay rate
