Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU position requiring SC or compact RN license and at least 2 years of recent NICU experience.

Details

• Work in the NICU of a hospital environment
• Care for neonates 22 weeks gestation and greater with diagnoses including abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS/RFS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, duodenal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, urethral stenosis, myelomeningocele, and ROP
• Perform or assist with special procedures including full body cooling, chest tubes, surgical repair of anomalies (excluding cardiac), tracheostomy management, and Avastin administration/laser eye surgery
• Utilize specialized equipment such as Artic Sun, Blanketroll, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Alaris, Philips central monitors, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, Atom Dual and GE Dual Incubators, Dreager Caleos, and radiant warmers
• Uses Pyxis/Omnicell for unit medication system
• Documentation completed in EPIC EMR
• Night shift schedule with option for 4x12 hour shifts (1900-0730) with no call, or 3x12 hour shifts with call requirement of at least one 12-hour call shift bi-weekly
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend unless needs change
• Floating required to other NICU units or facilities as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license (SC or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and STABLE
• Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience required
• Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
• Prior travel experience required
• Experience with 1:2 patient ratios
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Proficiency in skills including IV therapy, blood and blood product administration, arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, neonatal dosage calculations, ventilator management, and therapeutic hypothermia
• Experience with neonatal patient populations including those less than 24-28 weeks and up to over 34 weeks gestation

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including APGAR scoring, developmental care, thermoregulation, and patient/family teaching
• Manage complex respiratory needs including bubble CPAP, HFNC, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, and tracheostomy care
• Support gastrointestinal care including feedings, ostomy management, and care for gastroschisis/omphalocele and NEC
• Administer medications including anti-seizure medications, antibiotics, IV vasopressors, and surfactants
• Provide care for neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, and neonatal sepsis with appropriate isolation precautions
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Floating required to other Prisma Health units and/or campuses per census needs, limited to units where competencies have been demonstrated and documented
• Local candidates may be considered under specific radius rules based on distance from Prisma Health facilities
• Pre-assignment testing and required modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login information
• Orientation occurs every Monday
