Description:
The job summary involves the administration and recording of radiopharmaceuticals.
Identify each patient and confirm their date of birth and identification.
Achieve venous access and administer the radiopharmaceutical.
Record the route of administration, dose, and technologist's initials.
Describe the exam to the patient and obtain informed consent.
Complete the necessary paperwork for study input of patient information into the radiology management system for record keeping and charge generation.
Evaluate requisition, charts, and lab results.
Perform patient assessments and confirm that females of childbearing age are not pregnant.
Arrange for pregnancy testing upon orders from the Nuclear Medicine physician.
May perform advanced duties, such as those in Positron Emission Technology (PET) imaging or lead technologist role.
Handle radiopharmaceuticals, including their receipt, proper documentation, and disposal.
Follow guidelines set up by radiation safety authorities.
Select radiopharmaceuticals, review dosages and quality control to ensure that each dose administered is correct for the ordered procedure.
Set up acquisitions and perform according to protocol while maintaining patient comfort, care, and safety.
Analyze images and evaluate them for correctness.
Process films and submit them to the physician for approval.
Use radiology information systems and other management systems to generate proper documentation.
Complete all orders with appropriate and accurate charges.
Use transport tracking systems to arrange transportation of inpatients to and from the department.
