Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Profession: Diagnostic Imaging Specialty: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum of 3 years required License: NH license and certification to practice nuclear medicine required Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required Must-Have: Excellent technical and computer skills Must-Have: Attention to detail Must-Have: Good communication and interpersonal skills Must-Have: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills Description: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients undergoing scans for diagnostic purposes. The Technologist will use the scanner to create images of various areas of the patient's body which will emit radiation from the drugs to indicate the presence of diseases. Essential duties include supporting and promoting the mission and values of the organization. Responsibilities involve preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals orally, by injection, or inhalation. The Technologist will explain the imaging procedure to patients, answer questions, and ensure their comfort while positioning them for scanning. Operating imaging equipment, such as SPECT/CT scanners, is a key part of this role. Processing images of the brain, thyroid, bone, heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver on the computer is expected. Detailed records of the amount and type of radiopharmaceutical used and of the procedure must be maintained. Producing computer-generated images for interpretation by physicians is a core duty. Following safety procedures to protect staff and patients from unnecessary radiation exposure is essential. The Technologist must maintain current knowledge of advancements in the field. Other duties consistent with this role may be assigned as needed. Working conditions require the physical and mental ability to perform tasks associated with this position, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting or carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds, is necessary. Some stress related to the high level of responsibility for quality care is expected.
