Infusion Registered Nurse
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Infusion Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in Robinson, Illinois. This role is based in an outpatient infusion department, where you will provide direct and indirect patient care, specializing in the administration of various infusions, including blood transfusions, drug infusions, and antineoplastic agents.
The Infusion RN will be responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and educating patients and their families on treatment protocols. This position requires a high degree of initiative, flexibility, and professional responsibility, operating with minimal supervision while prioritizing patient needs and ensuring optimal patient flow.
You will collaborate closely with practitioners, communicating changes in patient status and diagnostic results, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and quality care are maintained throughout the infusion process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and complete patient assessments, considering age, culture, and psychosocial factors, including comprehensive pain assessment and reassessment.
- Initiate intravenous access via peripheral or central venous devices and administer prescribed blood transfusions, drug infusions, and other ordered therapies.
- Prepare and administer medications, including antineoplastic agents, adhering to safety protocols, policy guidelines, and nursing standards of care.
- Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medication administration, potential side effects, and follow-up instructions.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment, assess the effectiveness of pain management strategies, and revise care plans as indicated.
- Document patient medical history, assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Collaborate effectively with practitioners and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless transitions.
- Utilize specialty equipment and implement established safety procedures to optimize patient safety and reduce healthcare errors.
- Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and departmental efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification through the Oncology Nurse Society.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Prior experience with chemotherapy administration.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in IV initiation (peripheral and central lines) and venipuncture.
- Expertise in administering blood products, various drug infusions, and antineoplastic agents.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

- Ability to manage medication supply and coordinate with pharmacy services.
