Travel Nurse RN - $1,496 per week in Atlanta, GA

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Perinatal provides specialized nursing care to women before, during, and after childbirth. The focus of this role is to support maternal and fetal health, monitor labor progression, assist with delivery, and provide post-partum care to new mothers. The RN in perinatal care will work in collaboration with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the baby throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the post-partum period.

• Prenatal and Pre-Delivery Care:

  • Monitor the health of pregnant patients through regular assessments, including blood pressure, fetal heart tones, and maternal lab results.
  • Educate expectant mothers on prenatal care, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and preparation for childbirth.
  • Provide emotional support to women and families during the pregnancy and preparation for labor and delivery.
  • Offer counseling and guidance on childbirth plans, including pain management options, breastfeeding, and potential complications.
  • Perform assessments and screenings to detect complications such as gestational diabetes, hypertension, or preterm labor.

• Labor and Delivery Monitoring:

  • Monitor and assess the progress of labor by tracking contractions, fetal heart rate, and maternal vital signs.
  • Administer medications, including pain management options such as epidurals, narcotics, or local anesthesia, under the direction of the physician or anesthesiologist.
  • Assist in the delivery process by providing care during active labor, performing assessments of maternal and fetal status, and providing assistance to obstetricians or midwives during the delivery.
  • Manage emergencies that may arise during labor and delivery, including assisting with resuscitation, controlling bleeding, or responding to fetal distress.

• Postpartum Care:

  • Provide post-delivery care for mothers and newborns, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with breastfeeding, and ensuring comfort.
  • Assess and manage common postpartum issues such as bleeding, uterine contraction, and perineal care.
  • Provide education to mothers on newborn care, including infant feeding, diapering, bathing, and recognizing signs of common conditions such as jaundice or colic.
  • Offer guidance on self-care, family planning, and emotional well-being, including monitoring for postpartum depression.

• Newborn Care:

  • Monitor the newborn's health immediately after delivery, including performing APGAR assessments, checking for any signs of distress, and initiating early bonding and breastfeeding.
  • Assist in routine newborn procedures such as vaccinations, newborn screenings, and providing appropriate care for premature or at-risk infants.
  • Work closely with pediatricians and neonatologists in the care of newborns who may need specialized attention.

• Patient Education and Support:

  • Provide continuous education to patients and families on topics such as labor stages, pain relief options, infant care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
  • Support families in their birth plan preferences and assist with the decision-making process for medical interventions.
  • Address emotional and psychological concerns related to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.
  • Offer support to partners or family members, helping them understand their roles and how to assist the mother and newborn during the birthing process.

• Collaboration with Healthcare Team:

  • Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and other medical professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Participate in patient care conferences and team meetings to discuss individual care plans for expectant mothers.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team about any changes in maternal or fetal status to ensure prompt and appropriate interventions.

• Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with hospital policy and legal requirements, including documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
  • Record details of labor and delivery, including medications administered, maternal and fetal vital signs, and complications that arise during the delivery.
  • Ensure all records are completed for billing, compliance, and quality improvement purposes.

• Emergency and Complication Management:

  • Provide immediate intervention in the case of obstetric emergencies, including complications such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, placental abruption, or postpartum hemorrhage.
  • Respond to neonatal emergencies, such as resuscitation or stabilization of the newborn, and work with pediatric and neonatal teams when necessary.
  • Administer interventions as needed, such as administering oxygen, IV fluids, or medications during critical moments in labor or delivery.

• Quality Improvement and Continuing Education:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on maternal and neonatal care, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in perinatal care, including new technologies, treatments, and standards of practice.
  • Participate in educational programs, certifications, and workshops related to obstetrics, labor and delivery, and maternal/newborn care.
