Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse to join our team at the MVHS-Wynn Outpatient Infusion Unit in Utica, New York. This role involves providing specialized care to adult and geriatric patients receiving a wide range of intravenous therapies in a fast-paced clinical environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering treatments for various conditions, including oncology, neurological disorders, anemia, and gastrointestinal issues. This includes the administration of chemotherapy, blood products, and other specialty medications, while closely monitoring patient responses and ensuring comprehensive, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for adult and geriatric patients in an outpatient infusion setting.
- Administer a variety of intravenous therapies, including chemotherapy, blood products, antibiotics, hydration, and other specialty medications, following established protocols.
- Monitor patients closely for adverse reactions during infusions and implement appropriate interventions.
- Manage and maintain central venous access devices (CVADs) and peripheral IVs.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, potential side effects, and self-care instructions.
- Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and medication administration in the electronic health record (EPIC).
- Operate and troubleshoot infusion pumps (e.g., Alaris, elastomeric) and other medical equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including infection control and safety protocols.
- Demonstrate flexibility to float to other areas as needed to support unit operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an outpatient infusion setting.
- Experience with adult and geriatric patient populations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Proficient in IV insertion, central line care, chemotherapy administration, blood product administration, medication administration, patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, emergency response protocols, and managing common diagnoses such as oncology, neurological conditions, anemia, and gastrointestinal disorders.
- Equipment: Competent in the use of Alaris infusion pumps, elastomeric pumps, and glucometers.
- Technology: Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, specifically EPIC. Familiarity with Omnicell and Ascom communication systems.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication (written and verbal), critical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment, strong teamwork, empathy, and patient education abilities.
