Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

• Active New York Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 2 years of acute hospital RN experience, including at least 1 year of Emergency Department experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Current stroke assessment certification, such as NIHSS, as required by the department
• Certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association or completed through RQI, where applicable
• Ability to work rotating day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and scheduled on-call assignments
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, teamwork, and patient advocacy skills

Travel Emergency RN Responsibilities

• Perform triage and identify the urgency and priority of care for patients of all age groups using established emergency assessment standards.
• Complete focused and comprehensive assessments, recognize changes in condition, and initiate timely interventions for critical and routine emergency presentations.
• Provide direct nursing care, including invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, monitoring, and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
• Reassess patients after interventions, evaluate treatment response, and communicate changes promptly to the interdisciplinary care team.
• Establish rapport with patients and families, reduce anxiety, address comfort and pain needs, and provide clear updates throughout the Emergency Department visit.
• Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, provide discharge education, and support appropriate post-emergency care planning.
• Assess psychosocial, emotional, cultural, and safety needs, documenting and reporting suspected abuse or domestic violence according to policy.
• Collaborate with physicians and other care team members, delegate appropriately, and promote infection prevention and patient safety practices.
