Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health| Waterloo, IA
Location: 1825 Logan Ave, Waterloo, IA 50703, United Unit: Mental Health Unit – Psychiatric Position: Travel Registered Nurse (Behavioral Health) Assignment Length: 13 Weeks with possible extension Start Date: August 24, 2026 Schedule: Days | 3x12-Hour Shifts | 36 Hours/Week
Schedule
Day Shift
Three 12-hour shifts per week
36 guaranteed hours
Every other weekend
Holiday rotation required
No on-call responsibilities
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric behavioral health patients.
Complete psychiatric assessments and develop individualized care plans.
Administer medications and monitor patient responses.
Utilize therapeutic communication and crisis intervention techniques.
Assist in patient de-escalation and ensure a safe treatment environment.
Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary team members.
Document patient care accurately using EPIC.

21-bed inpatient psychiatric unit
Adult and geriatric patient population (18+ years)
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5–7
