Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Behavioral Health (Travel)

Location: Crittenton Children's Center – Kansas City, MO
Facility Type: Pediatric Psychiatric Hospital (Magnet Facility)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights | 3 × 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
 

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Acute Inpatient Pediatric Behavioral Health team at Crittenton Children's Center. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of RN experience, preferably in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing, and experience managing patient assignments in a 1:12 ratio.
 

Schedule

  • 13-week travel assignment
  • Three 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend requirement:
    • Every Sunday night, or
    • Every Friday night, or
    • Every other Friday night
  • Block scheduling is not available.
  • No on-call requirements.

Patient Assignment

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:12 (Days, Nights, and Weekends)
  • No floating required.
  • Each unit is staffed with one RN supported by Behavioral Health Technicians, who provide direct patient observation based on physician-ordered staffing levels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active RN license (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience
  • Experience caring for up to 12 patients
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current CPI or MANDT certification required at the time of submission
  • Must successfully complete:
    • MANDT Patient Restraint Certification (if renewal is needed)
    • Trauma-Informed Care Training
    • Zero Suicide Training
  • Missouri Children's Division Background Check (MoVechs) required

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in the following settings are strongly preferred:

  • Pediatric or Adolescent Behavioral Health
  • Inpatient Psychiatric Units
  • Locked Behavioral Health Units
  • Residential or Group Home Settings
  • Substance Use or Chemical Dependency Programs
  • Medical/Psychiatric Units

Experience treating patients with:

  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Schizophrenia and Psychotic Disorders
  • PTSD
  • Eating Disorders
  • Personality Disorders
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Suicidal or Self-Injurious Behaviors
  • Substance Use Disorders
  • Aggressive or Assaultive Behaviors

Clinical Skills

  • Medication administration (PO, IM, IV, SC, Rectal)
  • IV initiation and maintenance
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • CPR and emergency response
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Behavioral management
  • Physical hold protocols
  • Seclusion procedures
  • Interpretation and communication of laboratory results

Additional Requirements

  • Local candidates are not accepted. Applicants must reside at least 75 miles from the facility.
  • Maximum of 7 days of requested time off (RTO).
  • Guaranteed schedule based on contract terms.
  • Candidates must respond promptly to all onboarding requirements.

Missouri MoVechs Background Check (Time-Sensitive)
 

The Missouri DSS MoVechs background check requires active participation from the traveler and typically takes at least three weeks to complete.

Within one week of signing the contract, candidates must:

  • Complete the onboarding DocuSign packet.
  • Submit the Missouri MoVechs application.
  • Provide all requested state and DSS documentation promptly.
  • Respond to any additional requests from Missouri DSS until final clearance is received.
