Nurse Manager – Behavioral Health

Location: Brooklyn (Onsite)
Salary: $145,000 – $160,000 annually
Shift: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Behavioral Health to lead operations within a hospital-based psychiatric unit. This role is responsible for clinical oversight, staff leadership, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement, ensuring high-quality patient care and operational excellence.

  • Recent experience managing a Behavioral Health / Psych unit in a hospital setting – Required
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations and clinical management of the behavioral health unit
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and quality programs
  • Manage admissions, discharges, and care coordination
  • Prepare and report data for regulatory agencies:
    • NY State Office of Mental Health (OMH)
    • NY Department of Health (DOH)
    • NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)
    • Administration for Children’s Services (ACS)
  • Support survey readiness (DOH, JCAHO)
  • Oversee staff performance, education, and competencies
  • Manage budgeting, supplies, and inventory
  • Provide 24-hour operational leadership coverage
  • Foster a collaborative, patient-centered care environment
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN License – New York State
  • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) – Required
  • BLS & ACLS Certifications – Required
  • Crisis Management Certification (PMCS/TRUST) – Required
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum 5 years of psychiatric/behavioral health experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership/management role
  • Strong experience with:
    • Regulatory compliance (NYSDOH, JCAHO)
    • Quality Improvement (CQI, RCA)
    • Operational and administrative leadership
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) – Preferred
  • Experience with electronic medical records and healthcare systems
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
