Travel Cardiac Cath Lab RN – Level I Trauma Center

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts
Call: Approximately 6–8 call shifts per month
Charting: Epic
Care Setting: Acute Care
Trauma Level: Level I
BSN Required: No
Scrubs: Provided by the facility

Department Overview

• 6 Cath Lab suites
• Approximately 4–20 cases per day
• 1:1 procedural nursing care
• Cath Lab operates separately from Interventional Radiology and Electrophysiology

Common Procedures and Patient Types

• STEMI and NSTEMI
• Heart failure
• Congenital cardiac conditions
• TAVR
• MitraClip
• Peripheral vascular procedures
• Diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization

Experience Requirements

• Recent Cardiac Cath Lab RN experience
• Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and telemetry strips
• Must be comfortable titrating IV medications and cardiac drips when required
• Interventional Radiology experience is helpful but not required

Required Certifications

• AHA BLS
• ACLS

Staffing Model

• Regular procedural teams consist of 1 RN and 2 Radiologic Technologists
• Call teams consist of 4 clinicians
• Charge Nurse coordinates daily operations and serves as a clinical resource
• The on-call RN may function as the Charge Nurse during call coverage

Call Requirements

• Approximately 6–8 primary or backup call shifts each month
• Full weekend call approximately every 6–7 weekends
• Weekend call begins Friday at 5:30 PM and ends Monday at 6:00 AM
• Additional 24-hour backup weekend call occurs approximately once per month
• Backup RN circulates during emergency cases
• Holiday call may be required, including Easter backup call
• Staff may occasionally work beyond the scheduled shift to complete emergent cases

Floating

• No routine floating outside the Cath Lab
• Nurses with Interventional Radiology experience may occasionally assist in IR
