Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab Duration: 18 weeks Shift: First Shift Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: No experience required; preferred ~2 years experience in a busy Cath Lab License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Accept responsibility for actions, attitude, and results while meeting performance expectations. - Practice effective, clear, and respectful communication (both verbal and written) and demonstrate attentiveness through active listening and engaged body language. - Collaborate, respect, and cooperate with all co-workers, valuing differences and addressing concerns directly. - Greet all internal and external customers warmly and professionally, promoting a high level of satisfaction. - Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of computer systems and applications or ability to be trained. - Assess age-specific patient safety issues and implement appropriate safety devices for all patients. Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The focus is on creating a caring environment dedicated to healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence, research, and established policies and procedures. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Promoting nursing excellence is achieved through helping relationships among nursing staff and across disciplines. Responsibilities include coordinating and providing direct patient care activities on the unit. This involves conducting nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. The RN facilitates admission, transfer, and discharge activities. Patient and family-centered education is provided alongside care coordination and individualized treatment planning. The RN performs comprehensive assessments in accordance with scope of practice and policies. Consideration is given to the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Identification of patient risk factors and presenting complaints is essential. Health information is obtained from families or others as necessary. Objective and subjective data are collected systematically. Initial admission assessments are verified if obtained by other healthcare team members. A problem list is developed, prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. Actions and interventions are designed relevant to the patient’s culture and age. Desired outcomes are determined in coordination with the patient and family, aligned with the medical plan of care. Patient care therapies and procedures are implemented with clinical autonomy, in accordance with established policies. Procedures, treatments, and processes are explained to patients and families. The RN initiates actions to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Changes in patient conditions are recognized, responded to, and communicated appropriately. Ongoing assessments and responses to procedures and therapies are documented according to hospital policy and standards. The RN delegates tasks appropriately and oversees team members in patient care activities. Accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care are monitored. Educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems are identified and addressed. The discharge process is facilitated by executing discharge orders promptly and ensuring discharge teaching is performed. Input into patient/nurse assignments is provided considering staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity. Active participation in unit-based activities is demonstrated to support organizational values and priorities. A positive group dynamic and healing environment are promoted through words and actions. Nursing excellence is assured in accordance with accepted standards, evidence-based practices, and research. Participation in department and unit quality improvement activities and core measures is expected. A holistic perspective regarding patient care is utilized throughout.
