Job Title: Cardiac Cath Lab RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 10H Days Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active Illinois license or confirmation of application process Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Ability to read strips and titrate drips Description: The cardiac cath lab operates with 6 suites/labs. On average, the lab handles 4-20 cases per day with a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. Common diagnoses include STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, congenital conditions, TAVR, MITRACLIP, and peripheral issues. The cath lab is separate from interventional radiology and electrophysiology departments. Registered nurses will collaborate with registered technologists. There is a charge nurse on each shift, serving as a resource and coordinating duties. When on call, the nurse acts as the charge nurse. Cardiologists are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Regular shifts are 4-9 hours, occasionally extending to complete all cases. Weeknight on-call requirements are mandatory, with approximately 6-8 shifts per month. Weekend requirements include working every 6-7 weekends, with shifts starting Friday evening and ending Monday morning. There are additional weekend shifts, approximately once a month, for emergent cases, which require the circulator role. Holidays also require participation in call duties. Staff uniforms are provided. Unit orientation will include 2-3 shifts of specific training. Experience in interventional radiology is beneficial but not required. Charting is conducted using an electronic medical record system. No floating of staff members occurs within the unit. This position is within an acute care setting with a Level 1 trauma designation.
