Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Columbia, SC

Join a collaborative cardiac stepdown nursing team in Columbia, South Carolina, and provide high-acuity care to adult and geriatric patients in a progressive care unit (PCU). This on-site travel RN opportunity is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse skilled in cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia recognition, and complex medical-surgical nursing care. Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,770–$1,870
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel Registered Nurse contract
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• End Date: January 25, 2027
• Healthcare Setting: On-site cardiac stepdown/progressive care unit (PCU)
• Shift: Night shift, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
• Schedule: Four 12-hour shifts per week
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
• Unit Profile: 22-bed unit with an average daily census of approximately 20 patients
• Orientation: 36 hours

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in South Carolina
• At least 1 year of recent cardiac stepdown, progressive care, PCU, or cardiac telemetry nursing experience; 2 years preferred
• At least 1 year of Epic EMR experience
• American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications
• Current NIH certification
• Successful completion of required medication and arrhythmia assessments
• Strong knowledge of cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia recognition, and cardiac medication management
• Flu vaccination required according to assignment standards
• Ability to float to qualified units when patient-care needs require

Cardiac Progressive Care RN Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric cardiac stepdown patients.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, identify dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
• Care for patients with STEMI, NSTEMI, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, post-myocardial infarction needs, pacemaker or defibrillator placement, ablations, cerebrovascular accidents, and medical telemetry conditions.
• Administer medications and manage heparin protocols and titratable cardiac infusions within scope and established guidelines.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure care for cardiac catheterization patients.
• Manage central lines, peripheral IVs, chest tubes, tracheostomies, blood products, and other required clinical equipment.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, clinical documentation, patient education, and care coordination using Epic.
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and participate in rapid response and code team activities.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
