Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown (PCU)

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Assignment Duration: July 5, 2026 – October 3, 2026
Contract Length: 13 Weeks

Shift: Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
On-Call: None

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care to join a high-acuity cardiac unit. The ideal candidate will provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
  • Care for patients with advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy, acute coronary syndrome, and pre- and post-cardiac surgery needs.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and cardiac therapies according to physician orders and established protocols.
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and promptly respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and families regarding disease management, medications, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Adhere to all patient safety, infection prevention, and quality care standards.

  • Unit Type: Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Bed Capacity: 23 beds
  • Patient Population:
    • Advanced heart failure
    • Cardiomyopathy
    • Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
    • Pre- and post-cardiac surgery patients
    • Other complex cardiac disorders
  • Patient Age: Adults (18 years and older)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of recent Cardiac Stepdown, Progressive Care, or comparable acute care nursing experience.
  • Strong cardiac assessment and rhythm interpretation skills.
  • Successful completion of a proctored rhythm interpretation exam.
  • Experience caring for high-acuity cardiac patients preferred.

Required Certifications

  • Active Tennessee RN License or Compact RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Assignment Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
  • On-Call Requirement: None
