Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown / IMCU | Boston, MA

Apply for a 13-week travel nursing contract in Boston, Massachusetts, caring for complex cardiac stepdown and intermediate-care patients in a Level I trauma center. This Registered Nurse opportunity is ideal for an experienced telemetry RN who is confident managing cardiothoracic and vascular patients in a fast-paced 38-bed unit with strong nurse-to-patient ratios.

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,470–$2,600
  • Assignment Dates: November 2, 2026–January 30, 2027
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts
  • Shift Pattern: Day and night rotation; 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Patient Population: Postoperative and intermediate-care patients requiring cardiac stepdown monitoring
  • Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3, 1:4, or 1:4–5 for medical-surgical patients
  • Location: On-site in Boston, Massachusetts (02118)

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure eligible for practice in Massachusetts
  • At least 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience
  • Recent surgical stepdown or intermediate care unit (IMCU) experience in a Level I trauma center is required
  • Demonstrated ability to independently read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips
  • Experience with automated medication dispensing systems
  • More than one previous travel nursing assignment
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Ability to complete telemetry and critical-care medication assessments on the first day
  • Tertiary-care experience is preferred

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring cardiac stepdown and intermediate-level monitoring
  • Care for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, and transplant procedures
  • Monitor, interpret, and respond appropriately to telemetry rhythms and changes in patient condition
  • Perform focused and comprehensive nursing assessments, administer medications, and evaluate treatment outcomes
  • Recognize clinical deterioration and collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate timely interventions
  • Safely manage complex postoperative patients transferred from the PACU or surgical intensive care unit
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and promote continuity of care during patient handoffs
  • Support a collaborative, patient-centered environment while maintaining high standards of safety and quality
