Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity, fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit with patient ratios of 1:5–6, with the expectation of comfortably managing up to 6 patients during surge
Care for stable pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients including those with pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures
Manage and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, and other vasoactive medications; experience with PCI required
Monitor and manage patients presenting with unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA/TIA, and low-risk chest pain via continuous telemetry and pulse oximetry
Utilize unit systems including Pyxis, Dimensions (EPIC), and SBAR communication framework
Participate in on-call rotation, float assignments, and weekend requirements (every other weekend; 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays per 6-week period)
Required Qualifications
Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a cardiac stepdown or similarly high-acuity setting with comparable patient ratios and acuity levels
Required certifications: ACLS, BLS/BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
Required skills: IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management, and PCI experience
Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Must be available every day during week one for hospital orientation (36-hour orientation total)
Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are welcome to apply; a local pay rate will apply
Preferred Experience / Skills
Prior travel nursing experience (first-time travelers will be considered)
Experience with high patient-turnover environments; this unit typically turns over 78–90 patients per week
Familiarity with Bipap (chronic use only), non-rebreather masks (palliative only), and high-flow oxygen with stable O2 saturation
Experience caring for COVID-positive patients on opti-flow or Bipap during surge conditions
