Job Title

Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | 8-Week Assignment | Full-Time | Onsite | Nights (3x12, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every Other Weekend Required | Holidays Required as Scheduled

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with cardiac diagnoses including dysrhythmias, heart blocks, pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery, TAVR, post-op permanent pacemaker placement, and post-op mitral clips
  • Administer and monitor cardiac drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, Lasix, and Hypertonic Sodium within established parameters (non-titratable)
  • Perform EKGs, manage chest tubes and pericardial drains, maintain strict intake and output, and perform Foley insertion and care
  • Operate and monitor telemetry equipment, IV infusion pumps, external cardiac pacers for epicardial wires, and other unit-specific equipment
  • Support patient mobility using cardiac walkers and assist with care coordination across a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Float within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Active Maryland RN license or active Compact RN license at time of submission
  • Current ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
  • CPI certification (Calm Every Storm online version is the only acceptable online vendor)
  • NIHSS certification
  • Ability to float within scope with no restrictions; travelers are first to float
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Prior experience in cardiac stepdown or telemetry nursing with exposure to post-surgical cardiac populations
  • Familiarity with ICU Medical Plum Duo Infusion Systems and telemetry monitoring with monitor tech support
  • Experience managing chest tubes, pericardial drains, and external cardiac pacers for epicardial wires
