Job Title: RN - CVICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of ICU experience is required. License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Advanced cardiac monitoring skills. Experience with hemodynamic and respiratory support. Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms. Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump or Impella assistance. Description: RN - CVICU position available in a community-based hospital. The facility has 304 licensed beds and offers teaching opportunities for interns, residents, advanced practice providers, and nursing students. The department includes 8 beds with an average daily census of 7 patients. The unit accepts first-time travelers. Patient types include general medical patients needing advanced monitoring of cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic status. Common diagnoses involve myocardial infarction and post-interventional procedures. Patients may include those requiring cardiac, respiratory, or hemodynamic support, including pharmacological assistance. The unit also manages respiratory failure, renal failure, severe sepsis, cardiac arrest, and neuro medical cases. RN to patient ratios are typically 1:2 in ICU care. Higher acuity patients may require 1:1 care. Overflow patient ratios may be 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions. CNA support is available. Charge nurse and rapid response team presence is ensured. 24/7 access to respiratory therapy and hospitalist services is provided. Continuous cardiac monitoring is the responsibility of the RN. Familiarity with EMR systems and various medical technologies is essential. Weekend rotation is every other weekend. Travelers are expected to work a significant portion of holidays.
