Our team provides care to some of the most critically ill patients. We frequently receive patients needing care from various regions. Though we serve patients with a variety of diagnoses, our major service lines are cardiothoracic surgery and neuro/neurosurgery. Throughout the pandemic, our team was tasked with providing ICU-level care for patients suffering from COVID-19 infection. We also managed cases requiring extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Unit capacity consists of 15 beds. The population served includes patients with cardiac surgery, cardiac transplantation, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, and those post-cardiopulmonary arrest. Patients served range from adolescents to late adults. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. Direct patient care staff consists of registered nurses and patient care technicians.
