Job Opportunity – Cardiovascular ICU Registered Nurse – South Carolina
Start Date: October 26, 2026
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend coverage required
Highlights:
- 1:2 patient ratio providing individualized critical care
- 12-bed dedicated cardiovascular ICU with daily census of 10 patients
- Complex patient population including post-cardiac surgery, ECMO, IABP, Impella, VAD, and CRRT
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
- 48-hour orientation with paid pre-assignment modules (up to 16 hours reimbursable)
- Adult patient population focused on cardiothoracic and vascular procedures
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
- Active RN license in good standing
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years recent experience in Cardiovascular ICU required
- Minimum 1 year experience with EPIC EMR required
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Experience with 1:2 patient ratios
- Must reside 100+ miles from facility location (distance requirements apply)
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions); COVID-19 vaccine not required
Patient Care Focus:
- Post-sternotomy patients: coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair, aortic dissection
- Post-surgical patients: carotid endarterectomy, lobectomy, mediastinoscopy, cardiothoracic procedures
- Vascular patients with extensive comorbidities and complications
- Advanced device management: CRRT, ECMO, IABP, Impella, Centrimag, VAD, pulmonary artery catheters
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Post-cardiac surgery care (directly from OR and stepdown)
- Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
- Hemodynamic monitoring including arterial lines, CVP, PA catheters, FloTrac/Vigileo
- Advanced cardiac devices: IABP, Impella, VAD, ECMO, epicardial pacing wires
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips
- Central line care, PICC management, and IV therapy
- Blood product administration and continuous IV sedation
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- CVVHD/CRRT for acute and chronic renal failure
