Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of cardiac ICU experience preferred License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS required Must-Have: Epic experience required Previous charge experience preferred Travel experience preferred Description: Weekdays and some weekends required. Rotating holidays are part of the schedule. Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity. Estimated patient ratios are 1:1 to 2:2. Skills required include IV start, telemetry, ventilator management, Swanz catheter, conscious sedation, balloon pumps, and pulmonary artery line management. Candidates must have experience with ECMO. Previous travel experience is preferred. Responsibilities include accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, assisting with chest tube insertion and removal, administering blood products, and managing ventilated patients. Candidates should have expertise in care of patients on ECMO, central line care, central venous pressure monitoring, and managing dysrhythmias. Candidates will also need to obtain 12 lead EKGs, perform phlebotomy, and manage tracheostomies. Daily census is typically around 28 patients with a total of 30 beds available. Unit supports interdisciplinary care, including physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. The unit specializes in various cardiovascular care scenarios, including cardiac surgery recovery, valve repairs, and ECMO support. The environment requires strong skills in patient management, especially for those with multisystem organ dysfunction, respiratory failure, and unstable dysrhythmias. Knowledge and practice of isolation precautions and infection prevention are essential. Familiarity with special equipment such as ventilators, total artificial hearts, and IABPs is required. Candidates must be prepared for the urgency of credentialing and compliance processes.
