Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day/Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: - CVICU experience required - Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required - Experience in a cardiothoracic surgery or acuity adaptable area preferred - Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty required License: - Wisconsin RN license required Certifications: - AHA BLS and ACLS required - Basic Arrhythmia experience required Must-Have: - Traveler will be required to pass a telemetry test prior to being cleared to start. Description: - This position involves day and night shifts of 12 hours each. - The shifts are from 07:00 to 19:30 and from 19:00 to 07:30. - Every other weekend and some holidays are required, with no call shifts. - The unit specializes in care for cardiothoracic surgical patients, including heart and lung transplants. - Patient demographics include adults and geriatrics, with a daily census of 26 patients. - The staffing model includes two care team leaders (charge RNs), one rapid response nurse, and 16 RNs providing direct patient care. - Nurses typically care for 1-2 patients but may care for up to 3 patients if acuity is low and staffing resources are limited. - Support staff includes nursing assistants and a unit clerk during specific hours. - The unit accommodates both planned and emergent procedures regularly. - A mix of technological expertise and a positive commitment to patient and family needs is essential. - Requirements include accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, assist with chest tube insertion and removal, blood product administration, CVICU care, ventilator management, and various cardiac procedures. - Travelers must have experience with equipment such as CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO. - Staff assignments may change throughout the shift based on patient admissions and transfers. - The environment is dynamic, with a wide range of acuity levels. - All care is delivered with an emphasis on technical competence and meeting patient needs.
