Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 05:45 AM - 05:45 PM, schedule varies (includes weekdays and every other weekend), self-scheduled with schedules released 4 weeks in advance

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, high-acuity cardiovascular surgical ICU nursing care for pre and fresh post-op CABG patients and other complex cardiac cases
- Manage ventilated patients, interpret telemetry and EKG strips, and titrate critical drips safely
- Operate and monitor CRRT (Next Stage), Swan monitoring, IABP, and support TAVR/Impella cases as needed
- Collaborate with hospitalists or intensivists, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy to coordinate 24/7 acute care
- Perform bedside report and maintain clear, accurate documentation in Cerner
- Float to other Sacramento facilities as needed while maintaining continuity of care
- Act as charge nurse when assigned: coordinate break relief and unit flow while supporting bedside care
Knowledge & Skills
- High-acuity cardiac critical care skills including CABG recovery protocols and extubation goals
- Experience with ventilator management and reading/acting on arterial/central monitoring
- Proficiency with CRRT (Next Stage) and continuous hemodynamic monitoring including Swan
- Familiarity with IABP, Impella, and TAVR patient care pathways
- Cerner EMR experience for charting and unit communication
- Strong clinical judgment, proactive communication, and ability to ask for help when needed
Requirements
- Active RN license appropriate for practice in California
- Minimum 2 full years experience in CVICU and at least 1 prior travel assignment required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications and NIHSS certification
- Strong telemetry and EKG interpretation skills
- Charge nurse experience preferred; ability to step into charge responsibilities when assigned
- Must provide 2 supervisor references at submittal (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)
- Prior to signing contract, must complete the DYS exam through UNA within 24-48 hours and achieve required score (two attempts allowed); failure on second attempt results in DNU for CommonSpirit AZ and Sac
