Contract (13 Weeks, with possible extension) | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3x12-hour shifts per week | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays within the contract are required | Travelers must work two of the three winter holidays | 48-hour contract options may be available; overtime may be applicable after 48 hours | Block scheduling cannot be accommodated

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Cardiothoracic ICU setting utilizing a universal bed model, which includes caring for step-down patients as needed
• Manage and monitor advanced hemodynamic devices including Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Impella, FloTrac/Vigileo, and Pulmonary Artery/Swan-Ganz lines
• Care for post-cardiac surgery patients (including those arriving directly from the OR), pre/post cardiac cath/intervention patients, and CVA/acute stroke patients
• Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips; administer and manage continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation
• Manage ventilated patients including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
• Perform arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, blood product administration, CVVHD/CRRT, IV insulin protocols, and surgical wound/wound vac care

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a CVICU or CTICU setting
• Active Virginia RN license or Compact RN license — must be in hand at time of submission; no exceptions
• Proficiency in Epic EMR — required; no exceptions
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Must pass a facility EKG/telemetry test with a score of 80% or higher prior to start; one attempt is given with no remediation available — candidates who do not pass will not be permitted to begin orientation or their contract
• Fit testing required; facility cannot accommodate PAPR — any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate from consideration
• No prior license or background hits will be accepted; no exceptions
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
• Strong neurological nursing experience, including post-brain surgery care, EVD/ventriculostomy experience
• Experience with CABG patients and multi-system organ failure management
• Familiarity with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, including complex rhythm identification
